Great looking space, bland less-than mediocre food. Not even the cocktails were particulary well executed. Very disappointing, skip this one
Unfortunately, the previous review about the terrible service is spot on. The service at this restaurant is just horrible. Even worse, the food is prepared "pre-mixed" and therefore cannot accomodate changes. No one will tell you that up front. For example, we ordered a noodle and vegetable dish without peppers and onions. Of course, it came with peppers and onions. Then, it came back with nothing on it. Returned again. The next time it came back with noodles and canned peas. (The menu for the item specified snap peas). On this third go around, we were told (1) we're out of sprouts and (2) everything is pre-mixed (so, veggies). They added the canned peas. And don't bother calling the manager--he couldn't have cared less.
I wish I could agree with the other reviewers, but on my first visit, my party waited for 30 minutes and got no service. We were seated with a brusque "Come on!" and were ignored for half an hour. The table next to us had been waiting an hour and a half and never received more than drinks. I've never been treated more rudely.
A friend and I went there for happy hour drinks and apps. There were only a handful of people there, (which I do not understand at all) perhaps people foget about it in it's location. Really nice interior, and nice large outdoor patio. Excellent cocktail and wine selection, as well as happy hour prices to boot. Our server, David, answered all of our questions about the menu, and suggested an excellent bottle of wine (1/2 price during happy hour). Lettuce wraps, and tuna tartar were both fresh, tasty, and on special. I can't wait to go back for the bottomless mimosa brunch for $15, and try the dim sum. An excellent outdoor place in nice weather, good loungey feel for cooler weather too. Keep up the great work Yaku!
Yaku is one of my favorite spots in the area: their dim sum and appetizer menu is amazing, their bartenders are awesome, and the food is always delicious, but the other day I made a fabulous discovery... Yaku serves brunch! I went Sunday morning after seeing their menu earlier that week, and I was certainly not disappointed. Their crepe selection included my favorite banana nut, so I had to try it and it was wonderful. Others in my party tried the eggs benedict, an omelet, and another ordered a couple dishes off the dim sum menu, and we all left satisfied. Kudos, Yaku, on doing brunch right -- I'll be back very soon!
Everything we got was sooooo good. I can not recommend this place enough. The food was so flavorful and unique. It is a must try.
I had been to Yaku a few months ago and agree that the food was average at best, but I was pleasantly surprised when I went for drinks last week and saw they had changed their menu! My girlfiends and I ordered all of the new appetizers like Ceviche caliente, salted squid, tuna tartar, stuffed yuca, and springrolls. We were SO happy with everything we got! I have to say my favorite was definitely the ceviche, it was amazing! I always liked coming here for drinks, but now I find myself craving their food too, especially the Aji de Gallina! Great Job Yaku!
I'm surprised by all the bad reviews. I've been there with many friends multipel times, and there is only 1 dish on the entire menu that we didn’t like (Aji de Camarones). Their chicken soup (Wo Min Soup) is especially good, light and very well seasoned, and I love all of their seafood dim sum. I prefer their dim sum to their entrees, but their entrees are also very good. They also have some great cocktails. Their first go at a pisco sour when they opened in October was not authentic, but after a few more trips they finally got it right. Also, it’s is very hip for this area of Arlington, much more like a downtown lounge than the other offerings in this area. Oh, and their apple wantons are fantastic.
I couldn't disagree more with Tom's review. The food was not good at all. They seemed to have some Chinese appetizers and some Peruvian entrees. I wouldn't really call that fusion. And none were very good. I went with a group of friends, we each ordered a different entree so we could share (which was difficult since there weren't that many), and none of the dishes was anything to write home about. Even the desserts were mediocre.
I'd have to disagree as well... Our trip to Yaku for happy hour was extremely disappointing. Out of the 6 dim sums ordered, none of them were enjoyable. The crispy calamari tasted like styrofoam, shrimp balls were soggy with grease, gyoza was extremely salty and the buns and shiumai tasted like they came out of a freezer. The one star is given to the atmosphere for drinks. While I do wonder if the entrees are better, it most likely will not be a while until I go back to Yaku.
