Season's Greenings

Beyond being a delightfully warm place to seek refuge from winter's worst weather, the Botanic Garden is decked out in extra greenery for its annual exhibit of Washington landmarks created out of plants. And if a miniature Lincoln Memorial made out of sea grape leaves, reindeer moss and coriander seeds isn't whimsical enough for you, there's also a nautical-themed model train display with more than 30 lighthouses, mermaids and a pirate ship. -- Amy Orndorff U.S. Botanic Garden 100 Maryland Ave. SW, Washington, DC

A Christmas Carol

The formidable Ed Gero as Scrooge is reason enough to see this Dickens classic at Ford's Theatre. The most recent of Gero's 75-plus performances at the Shakespeare Theatre Company was as the title character in "Henry IV, Parts 1 & 2" this past spring. With Gero as painter Mark Rothko, John Logan's two-character drama "Red" set box-office marks at Arena Stage in 2012. This is Gero's sixth season as Scrooge. -- Nelson Pressley Ford's Theatre 511 10th St. NW, Washington, DC | 202-347-4833
