Transformed from a refrigerated warehouse in 1983, the Design Center offers items from sofas to fabrics to kitchen faucets; it is the city's largest marketplace for interior furnishings and accessories.

Traditionally, customers can only purchase merchandise with the help of a professional designer or architect. But the public is welcome to purchase without professional assistance from the Kitchen, Bath and Building Products Center. Made up of eight showrooms displaying cabinetry, sinks, flooring and the like, this center -- unlike the rest of the Washington Design Center -- is open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
