More summer musicals in Washington

If it’s the warm fuzzies you seek, these musicals might be more your speed. You’ll definitely find a hearty dose of nostalgia in “Grease,” “The Wind in the Willows” and “Rock of Ages,” a musical based on anthemic rock songs from the 1980s.

Follies
Stephen Sondheim’s 1970s staple about the bittersweet reunion of former showgirls is being given a glittering, star-studded treatment at the Kennedy Center. Through June 19. Kennedy Center, 2700 F St. NW. 202-467-4600. www.kennedy-center.org. $45-$150.

The Wind in the Willows

Imagination Stage’s kid-friendly musical production of the turn-of-the-century storybook by Kenneth Grahame features music by Michael Silversher, who has composed songs for children’s television, including Muppets programs and Disney series. www.wolftrap.org . $20-$80.

Rock of Ages
This Broadway musical starring “American Idol” alum Constantine Maroulis is — we kid not — the story of Drew from South Detroit, who falls for small-town girl Sherrie in 1980s Los Angeles, where they fill their days teasing their hair and belting out Bon Jovi and Journey. July 12-24. National Theatre, 1321 Pennsylvania Ave. NW. 202-628-6161. www.national
theatre.org
. $56-$151.50.

Grease

Before they were in a movie, Danny and Sandy were characters in a stage musical. Olney Theatre Center revives the original show in time for summer. July 27-Aug. 21. Olney Theatre Center, 2001 Olney-Sandy Spring Rd., Olney. 301-924-4485. www.olneytheatre.org. $34-$54.
