Didn’t make it to the Capital Fringe Festival this summer? FallFringe starts today, and this year it’s the equivalent of a Fringe best-of fest, bringing back some of the funniest and most warmhearted shows to grace Fringe stages. Among the highlights: Michael Merino’s intelligently designed comedy “Squirrel, or the Origin of Species,” which pits Charles Darwin against a chatty gray squirrel; “The Evolution Revolution,” featuring acoustic-guitar-strumming comedian Ed Hamell; and Kimleigh Smith’s (literally) buoyant one-woman show, “T-O-T-A-L-L-Y!,” about a cheerleader with big dreams striving for solid footing.
Through Nov. 20. Fort Fringe, 607 New York Ave. NW. 866-811-4111. www.capfringe.org. $20, $15 for those with a 2011 Fringe Festival button.
