Taming energy hogs
Taming energy hogs
Home-monitoring apps often require companion systems, services or gadgets that hook into your energy meters, but if you don’t have the time or capability to do that, Green Outlet will at least give you an idea of how much energy your stuff may use. The app gives you a list of preset appliances (i.e. 50+ in. Plasma; Window Fan) to add to your list and tells you how much you can expect that appliance to use on your energy bill. It calculates some basic data based on where you live, how big your house is and how many people live there. The app’s main limitation is that it doesn’t let you create custom appliances, making it hard to estimate energy use accurately. It does provide a good outline of energy use, however, and will at least raise your awareness of what you’re using every month. 99 cents, for iOS devices.
