We have an immediate opening for Foundation Development Associate position at our Alexandria, Virginia location.
Provide project management and administrative assistance to development staff to include: Coordination, preparation, and submission of grant proposals and reports; fundraising and marketing materials development and distribution; donor report preparation; meeting scheduling and management; and development and execution of internal and external communications.
Manage the fundraising database system to include ensuring high quality data entry standards and accurate report generation. Document and adhere to standard operating procedures for data entry and reporting.
Enter donor related data including gifts, pledges, and contact information. Update contact information in the database including recording meetings, letters, research reports, news clippings, internal memos, notes, and other related items.
Generate acknowledgement letters for gifts and distribute copies (deposit slip, check copies and any additional information attached with the check) and maintain records. Create deposit sheets for Finance and Development record. Coordinate monthly reconciliation with accounting.
Coordinate direct mail and email program, and assist in the development of policies and strategies to increase support. Manage production and execution of all annual appeals (about 6-7 a year).
Coordinate and execute development related events with duties to include: Production of invitations and other related materials; securing venues; coordinating off and onsite logistics; securing catering and audio/visual requirements; securing labor, cleaning, signage, parking, seating, and entertainment; budget development and tracking; and event follow-up.
Conduct donor and program research, and prepare bios, profiles, and briefings.
Maintain computer and hard copy office filing and record-keeping systems.
Attend organization and program meetings/trainings including: staff meetings, staff trainings, and staff retreats.
Adhere to all PenFed Foundation policies and procedures.
Adhere to, uphold, and incorporate PenFed Foundation values into all relations with veterans, staff, and community stakeholders/volunteers.
Coordinate and assist with special projects, as assigned.
Experience / Requirements
Bachelor's Degree or combination of education and experience that provides the necessary skills and knowledge to satisfactorily perform the essential job functions.
Two to four years of work experience, some of which is related to fundraising, event planning and/or event management preferred.
Prior experience working with a fundraising database required (we utilize Salesforce).
Prior experience working with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint preferred.
Ability to work independently as well as support team members and programs.
Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, complex, multi-divisional environment with skills to establish priorities, set objectives, and achieve stated goals.
Demonstrated ability to communicate with high level of both oral and written expression with discretion, tact, and diplomacy.
Superior interpersonal skills required to work with diverse parties including major donors, staff, vendors, volunteers, and board members.
Excellent problem solving skills and ability to think critically.
Must have high level of enthusiasm, stamina and creativity.
Strong multitasking skills and attention to detail are a must.
Excellent computer skills a must.
Must demonstrate an extremely professional manner and ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Availability for evening and weekend special events.
Military family or military philanthropic experience preferred.
