This position is located in our VA, McLean facility
Responsible for analyzing, designing, developing or recommending integrated security solutions that will ensure proprietary/confidential data and systems are protected. The security engineer provides technical engineering services for the support of integrated security systems and solutions. Participates in the strategic design process to translate security and business requirements into technical designs. Configures and validates security systems and test security products and systems to detect security weaknesses.
Provide security oversight and direction related to the program in coordination to the satisfaction of the Customer's security group and contracting activity. Analyzes, defines and established security policies and procedures. Prepares and enforces security policy and procedures, and classification guidelines. Plans, coordinates, and implements security measures for information systems to regulate access to computer data files and prevent unauthorized modification, destruction or disclosure of information.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
•Trains users and promotes security awareness to ensure system security and to improve server and network efficiency.
•Develops and plans to safeguard computer files against accidental or unauthorized modification, destruction or disclosure and to meet emergency data processing needs
•Confers with users to discuss issues such as computer data access needs, security violations and programming changes
•Monitors current reports of computer viruses and updates virus protection systems.
•Monitors network for reports of computer viruses so that damages and/or security infractions or viruses are isolated, cleaned and reported quickly.
•Modifies computer security files for new software, errors, or individual access status.
•Coordinates implementation of computer system plan(s) with established personnel.
•Monitors the user of data files and regulates access to safeguard information in security files.
•Performs risk assessments and executes tests of data processing systems to ensure functioning of data processing activities and security measures/policies.
•Encrypts data transmissions and erects firewalls to conceal confidential information as it is being transmitted and to keep out tainted/corrupted digital transfers.
•Documents computer security and emergency measures, policies, procedures and testes.
•Reviews violations of computer security procedures and discuss procedures with violators to ensure violations are not repeated.
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•Fundamentally sound in the areas of network and computer security
•Experience in Windows 2000, XP, and NT system security.
•Experience in Linus operating system security
•Experience with intrusion detection (logs), firewalls, SSL, VPNs, risk analysis, IDS/IPS configuration, monitoring and optimization, security auditing and threat analysis.
•Experience using TCP/IP, PERL, C++ and HTML
•Experience with Cisco and Juniper Networking equipment.
•Experience with best networking security practices
•Experience with Cisco and Juniper: Cisco CCNA, CCNP, or CCIE; GIAC
•ISC2 Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) Certification
•Arc Sight Knowledge/experience; disaster recovery (DR) COOP experience/certifications
•ISC2 Systems Services Control Point (SSCP) certification; Solutions Expert (CSE)
•Computer forensics experience/certification.
•Firewall specialist (Variety)
