Have you ever considered volunteering abroad? NICA's Volunteer Abroad Program is based on a voluntourism model enabling participants to be immersed in a unique cultural experience in Nicaragua while helping the sustainability of the community. We host college students and adult travelers alike who are interested in experiencing more through traveling! The program can be used for college credit or just for personal fulfillment. More details can be found here: http://nicafund.org/volunteer/.
We are currently looking for ambassadors throughout the U.S. who would promote the volunteer travel program to friends, family and collegues! Our ambassadors receive a free week of travel in the country at no cost (plane tickets not included)! Just find three friends, colegues or family members to travel down and participate, and your local costs are free (housing, three meals a day, local transportation and a local overnight excursion).
If you are just interested in participating without becoming an ambassador, funding the trip is easy and every week you participate you employ a person in the community for one month. The job you are providing for an individual through your participation enables lasting change in the community. Think about it...you get to travel to a great new place, and a person in need is employed. A great reward for you and the community!! Why would you travel any other way? Most of the participants in NICA's Volunteer Abroad Program have been able to pay for their entire trip to our volunteer house through our page at Crowdrise: http://www.crowdrise.com/nicafund! Who does not want to travel to a great location and have supporters take care of the costs?
