Our client, a large credit union headquartered in Washington, DC seeks a tenured Controller
to join their team. The selected Controller
will be expected to manage accounting activities including planning, analyzing, organizing, and directing the accounting department goals and objectives. Responsibilities:
Manages the activities of the Accounting Department supervisor to include training, scheduling, assigning duties, providing annual performance reviews, and counseling as necessary
Works with the supervisor to develop short- and long-term goals in order to assist their overall development
Meets with the supervisor periodically to review progress
Manages the short-term investment portfolio, which includes, but is not limited to, cash and Federal Funds
Monitors and adjusts the cash position as necessary to meet daily liquidity needs and federally mandated reserve requirements
Monitors all new accounting rules and regulations.
Works with the Chief Financial Officer to develop any new policies/procedures, and internal controls that may be necessary to comply with new or amended rules and regulations
Evaluates and makes appropriate improvements to internal accounting processes, ensuring practices are in line with the overall goals of the organization
Manages the preparation of Credit Union financial statements, ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and regulations
Undertakes other work-related duties as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer Requirements:
BS in related field
10-15 years experience to include at least 3 years of supervisory experience
CPA Highly Preferred
Previous experience in a banking environment preferred
Proven knowledge and proficiency with GAAP and Sarbanes Oxley policies and procedure
Proficient with MS Office Suite
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
