General Summary:

Founded in 1987, SENTEL provides software engineering, and technical support for development, execution, and maintenance of Navy frequency management programs, including the Afloat Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations Program (AESOP), the Electromagnetic Compatibility Analysis Program (EMCAP), and the Communications Planning Module (CPM). SENTEL performs full life-cycle software development support for AESOP.

There is an immediate opening for a full-time Senior RF Engineer at our Dahlgren, Virginia office. This individual will be a member of the team responsible for designing, coding, implementing, and testing the U.S. Navy's Afloat Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations Program (AESOP) software code. The individual will be responsible for developing algorithms to predict interference and the operational impact of the interference between the full range of spectrum dependent systems in use by the US Navy, Allied Forces and Commercial communication, radiolocation and navigation systems. AESOP is used to develop the Operational Tasking Communication (OPTASK COMM) and combat systems radar frequency plans for use by U.S. and allied navies, to ensure all systems operate with minimal electromagnetic interference (EMI). The individual will also be expected to follow current developments within military and commercial spectrum dependent systems and anticipate their impact to operational and future systems. This position reports to the AESOP Software Team Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Supported AESOP software development project expansion/improvement with engineering measurement and analysis, software development, and model development.
  2. Developed the theory, algorithms, and code to model EMI to/from Navy radars, communication equipment, and navigation aids in a strike group (SG).
  3. Developed models for the system EMI susceptibilities.
  4. Investigate and solve some of the more complex electromagnetic interference (EMI) problems affecting fleet combat systems.
  5. Other duties that may be assigned to meet company and departmental goals and objectives.

Minimum Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

  1. Candidate must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
  2. Ten (10) years experience in the areas of Navy/Joint Operational Spectrum Management and National Administrative Spectrum Management.
  3. Eight (8) years experience in the application of Navy EMI and EMC criteria for operational spectrum coordination.
  4. Eight (8) years demonstrated understanding of the operation and evaluation of afloat Navy communications, combat systems, electronic warfare systems, and navigation aids with the ability to prepare test plans/reports, analytical evaluation of systems’ RF compatibility, and development of actionable EMC criteria.
  5. Eight (8) years experience in conducting Navy spectrum EMI/EMC testing and evaluations, performing engineering analyses to predict and define spectrum EMI problems, define/design actionable corrective measures, and operational implementation of systems in the U.S. Navy.
  6. Five (5) years experience in developing, updating, and maintaining Navy spectrum documentation, fleet operational publications, position papers, white papers, and briefings relating to Navy spectrum considerations.
  7. A working knowledge of the AESOP models used to evaluate interference of Navy shipboard equipment.

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

A minimal of 10 years of specific experience is required. A BS degree in a Mathematics or Science field (preferably Electrical Engineering) is highly desired. Additional related experience is desired.

Certificate, Licenses, Registration, Clearance:

All candidates must have a Security Clearance or be able to obtain a security clearance.

Computer Skills:

  • A basic knowledge of Windows desktop systems
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products such as Word and Excel

Supervision:

Candidate must be able to work independently in a fast paced environment.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

The employee will normally work in a non-temperature-controlled shipboard environment, with frequent exposure to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. An employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
