Barsac, France, $20

Aromas of honeydew, peach and fresh flowers. Fresh, light and vibrant on the tongue, with a long, rich, silky finish. A wonderful aperitif.

Les Carmes de Rieussec 2007

Sauternes, France, $25

Spicy, almost savory nose, with notes of toasted almond and fig. Drink this chilled with a rich lobster dish or simply as an aperitif with a stinky cheese. For a step up, look for the first label, Chateau Rieussec, at around $45.

Gorgeous nose with notes of orange blossom, melon and honey that you could sit and sniff all night. Layers of complex flavor, yet still a fresh acidity that pairs with spicy Asian food.

Sauternes, France, $40

Intense and full-bodied, with mango, spice and floral notes. Wonderful balance of sweet and acidity. An amazing value for what is a classic wine.
