A multipurpose sunroom in Springfield
By Megan Buerger,
After moving to a house in Springfield from a townhouse in Alexandria, Alisa Goetz faced an unexpected issue: too much space. The large sunroom should be the spot where her daughters, Amelia, 7 and Vivian, 4, can do crafts and homework. It should include a TV, but not as the focus.
By adding hidden storage and movable seating, designer Jessica Granda Bonness creates a room that satisfies a variety of needs for the family.
Designate a crafts area to keep projects from taking over the room. A table on wheels can be moved for grown-up gatherings.
Keep storage simple and out of sight. A wooden bench with bins tucked underneath keeps the space organized.
Create a reading corner where children can display their favorite books. Bright poufs make for fun seating.
Safeguard against spills and fingerprints. Choose neutral-colored, durable fabrics for furniture in less formal rooms.
Shop in unexpected places. This coffee table, with built-in cubbies, is from Restoration Hardware’s kids’ line.
Let the TV blend into the background. Mount a flat screen on the wall next to artwork.
