Linda Bond’s style tips

Keep paint colors consistent. Bond used Benjamin Moore’s Classic Gray in most of the rooms in her home. All the trim and woodwork is painted White Dove, which has a light gray undertone, also from Benjamin Moore.

Consider outdoor fabric. Bond chose an indoor-outdoor fabric to cover much of her upholstered furniture because she liked the color, the texture and the fabric’s softness. The bonus is that it’s easily cleaned with soap and water. This is especially helpful with light color upholstery and for households with children or pets.

Accessorize with the unexpected. Instead of coasters, Bond uses blue-and-white French ceramic tiles to protect her tabletops. She also uses garden elements. A zinc rooster, which used to sit in her mother-in-law’s garden, now has a home on a table in Bond’s sunroom. Black urns that hold green plants dress her mantel. “Using garden elements inside can make rooms feel warmer and more casual,” she says.

Make room for something found. If you have space in your kitchen, consider adding a piece of antique furniture instead of matching cabinetry, Bond says. In her kitchen, she removed the pantry to make room for a Swedish sideboard, which she uses to keep serving pieces. “It’s a huge amount of storage,” she says. “And it gives the kitchen more warmth and personality.”

Keep things organized and attractive. Throughout her home, Bond uses large, wicker baskets that have a light pickled finish to hold everything from books and magazines to bath towels and her dog’s toys.

Shop for inspiration. Bond’s favorite place to find things for her home are: Tone on Tone, Marston Luce, the Kellogg Collection, Susquehanna Antique Company, Inc., John Rosselli, Baker Furniture (for fabrics), Oliver Dunn, Catherine Roberts and Moss & Co., the Washington Design Center and 1st Dibs. They aren’t inexpensive stores, but they are great places to browse for inspiration.
