‘Bud, Not Buddy’ play for children

Bruce Douglas - Nick Vaughn as Buddy.

The jazz-inspired musical version of Christopher Paul Curtis’s award-winning novel “Bud, Not Buddy” is being performed as part of the Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival. The musical tells the fun and funny tale of 10-year-old Bud Caldwell, who sets off on his own in the middle of the Great Depression to find his father. He encounters adventures and must fight off his fears — including a fear of vampires. Along the way, he meets up with some amazing characters and tells a wonderful story about always finding the best in life and in people. The play is being produced with Glen Echo’s Adventure Theatre. It’s recommended for age 5 and older, and it lasts 45 minutes.
