Bulldog makes six orphaned piglets feel right at home in German animal shelter

We know you know the story of the three little pigs and the big bad wolf, but what about the six little pigs and the really loving bulldog?

Last week, a shelter for wild animals in Germany took in six wild boar piglets. They were only 3 days old and shivering from the cold. As soon as the newborns arrived, the shelter’s French bulldog, whose name is Baby, went right over to the piglets and started snuggling with them to keep them warm, according to Norbert Damm, who works at the animal sanctuary.

Since then, Baby has stayed right beside the piglets. The three males and three females each weighed less than two pounds.

“She thinks they’re her own babies,” Damm said.

This isn’t the first time that Baby has played mom to animals other than dogs. She has helped raise raccoons, cats and other animals, Damm said.

The piglets’ mother was probably killed by a hunter, Damm said. The piglets will be released into a nature reserve when they are about 3 months old.
