Class of KidsPost: Maury Elementary second-graders

Maury Elementary School - The secnd-graders at Maury Elementary in the District are KidsPost's Class of KidsPost for February.

The 23 second-graders in Natalie Hanni’s class at Maury Elementary in Northeast Washington are this month’s Class of KidsPost. These eager learners love to read. They also have lots of opinions about the world around them.

Who is your favorite author?

So many books, so little time. Among their favorites: Jan Brett, Eric Carle, Dr. Seuss, Dav Pilkey, J.M. Barrie and Jack Prelutsky.

What’s your favorite TV show?

Among the top vote-getters were: “SpongeBob SquarePants,” “Power Rangers: Samurai” and “Big Time Rush.”

What’s your favorite Web site?

What’s your favorite pizza topping?

The top picks were pepperoni, pineapple, cheese and sausage. YUM!

What’s your favorite ice cream flavor?

The class was divided between vanilla and chocolate.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

These big dreamers said they want to be scientists, veterinarians, doctors, nurses, athletes, teachers and lifeguards!

What’s the biggest problem in the world today?

The kids had lots of thoughts on this and finally decided on three issues.

1. Poverty: People in need of food, clothes and shelter, both in the United States and worldwide.

2. Helpless animals: Both endangered animals and those left in shelters with no one to care for them.

3. Taking care of Earth: We need to recycle and reduce the amount of garbage and discourage littering.
