Mickey Mouse, meet Yoda.
This means that the company that created Mickey, Buzz Lightyear and Donald Duck is joining forces with Luke Skywalker and Han Solo.
Disney paid $4 billion for LucasFilm. The company is owned by George Lucas, the creator of the “Star Wars” movies.
Disney has plans for lots more “Star Wars” movies and television shows.
The next movie, “Star Wars Episode VII,” is expected to be in theaters in 2015. Two more movies are expected to be released pretty quickly after that.
“Our long-term plan is to release a new ‘Star Wars’ feature film every two to three years,” said Disney’s Robert Iger.
Lucas was 33 years old in 1977 when he released the first “Star Wars” movie, which he wrote and directed. (When your parents saw it, that’s what it was called; you probably know it as “Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.”) Lucas is now 68; with the sale of his company to Disney, he will be retiring.
“It’s now time for me to pass ‘Star Wars’ on to a new generation of filmmakers,” he said.
