Holiday wrapping paper contest has 12 finalists; you can help pick the winner

We received hundreds of entries from kids in Washington, Maryland and Virginia for this year’s Weekend/Going Out Guide Holiday Wrapping Paper Contest. And the creativity was astounding. There were underwater Santas, Chinese okra stamps, snowmen, nutcrackers, Christmas trees and symbols from holidays including Kwanzaa and Chinese New Year. Now it’s your turn to help pick the winner.

We’ve chosen 12 finalists: three from each age group (6 and younger; 7- and 8-year-olds; 9- and 10-year-olds; and 11- and 12-year-olds). After the winner is picked, his or her artwork will appear in Weekend on December 23 as a sheet of gift wrap. So go to wapo.st/wrapvote with your mom or dad to vote. (They’ll need to fill in their e-mail address.) The voting ends at 11:59 p.m. Sunday.

Final reminder: You have until 5 p.m. Monday to enter the name-the-octopus contest being conducted by KidsPost and the National Zoo. Find out all the details at www.kidspost.com.
