Do you love books?
Do you love puzzles and games?
Do you love free stuff?
(If you didn’t answer yes to at least two of those questions, we don’t think you could possibly be a kid, and we think you should stop reading this RIGHT NOW.)
To those of you who are left: Boy, do we have great news for you!
KidsPost is teaming up with the Library of Congress’s National Book Festival for a special scavenger hunt aimed at kids who love books, puzzles and free stuff.
Here’s how it works:
1 Go to www.kidspost.com to download the scavenger hunt playing card and rules. (You can see a version of it on this page.) There’s room for three scavenger hunt pieces that you need to collect. You can download the first piece, showing a boy, a mom and a polar bear, anytime between now and September 25. Glue or tape it to your playing card.
2 Come to www.kidspost.com on September 20, when the second scavenger hunt piece (showing a polar bear signing a book) will be available. Print it out, and attach it to the second spot on your card.
3 Come to the National Book Festival on September 24 or 25 with your scavenger hunt playing card and collect the third scavenger hunt piece (featuring a well-known leader enjoying a good book) at the KidsPost table in the Let’s Read America Pavilion. You can then take your completed scavenger hunt card to one of the information booths throughout the book festival to collect your prize! (We won’t spoil the surprise by saying what it is, but we can promise that it will make any book-loving kid happy!)
This is the 11th year for the National Book Festival and the first time it will be held on two days. Besides meeting your favorite KidsPost writers, there are all sorts of fun things to do at the festival, including:
●Hear some of your favorite authors read from their books, people such as Patricia McKissack, Susan Cooper, Katherine Paterson, Brian Selznick and Tomie dePaola.
●Hop aboard the Magic School Bus and meet Ms. Frizzle herself.
●Make bookmarks and other crafts in the Let’s Read America Pavilion.
●Collect stickers and stamps from all 50 states, the District and the U.S. Virgin Islands on Saturday at the Pavilion of the States.
