Arlington County Library - Some of the American Girl dolls that can be checked out of the Arlington County Library system beginning in March. The dolls, from left, Cecile, Marie-Grace, Molly and Julie, all represent periods of American history and have stories that relate to the dolls. The dolls, which can be borrowed for one week, come with a companion American Girl book, a booklet on Arlington history during the time period and a journal to record the doll's activities.

Arlington County libraries are hosting several events to kick off the American Girl doll lending program. All events are free and all feature a reading from one of the books. Have your parents visit library.arlingtonva.us/american-girl for more information.
Meet Cecile and Marie-Grace: The dolls, whose stories are set in New Orleans, will be on hand for a Mardi Gras-style dress-up party featuring pecan pralines and cocoa. Partygoers are encouraged to wear ball gowns or other costumes. Columbia Pike Library, 816 South Walter Reed Drive, Saturday at 4 p.m.
Meet Molly: Kids can take a class in a craft that was popular during Molly’s time, World War II, at the Westover Library, 1644 North McKinley Road, Suite 3, Mondayat 4 p.m.
Meet Julie: The 1970s character Julie inspired the groovy crafts — tie-dye flowers and felt bracelets — that will be featured at Cherrydale Library, 2190 North Military Road, on March 27 at 4:30 p.m.
Meet author Valerie Tripp: Tripp, who wrote the Molly books (in addition to the series about historical characters Kit, Felicity and Josefina) will talk about writing and will answer questions at the Cherrydale Library on April 4 at 4:30 p.m.
