Obama welcomes rocket launchers, kids and robots to White House Science Fair

You can almost imagine the conversation at the White House dinner table last night.

Sasha: “What did you do at work today, Dad?”

President Obama: “I fired a marshmallow cannon in the State Dining Room.”

The conversation may not have actually happened, but the firing of the marshmallow cannon absolutely did.

The president welcomed more than 100 students from around the country at the second White House Science Fair.

The projects included rocket launchers, robots, and, yes, a marshmallow cannon. President Obama, who hosted the event as a way to highlight the importance of science and math education, seemed to enjoy himself.

“It’s not every day you have robots running all over your house,” he told the students. “I’m trying to figure out how you got through the metal detectors.”

He went on to tell the kids that they inspired him. “You’re getting America in shape to win the future,” the president said.
