So at the left we have a story about the Super Bowl. But that’s not the only hugely popular bowl game that will be played Sunday.
Don’t miss the Puppy Bowl.
“Puppy Bowl,” a TV special that is a lot like a football game with dogs as the players, made its debut eight years ago on Animal Planet. Dogs score touchdowns on a 10-by-19-foot gridiron carpet when they cross the goal line with a toy. There is a Most Valuable Pup award, a water bowl cam, slow-motion cameras, hedgehog cheerleaders, a puppy hot tub and a blimp with a crew of hamsters.
The point of the Puppy Bowl — besides two hours of awwwwww-inspiring television — is to raise awareness of the need to stop animal cruelty and to adopt homeless animals.
Nearly 9 million people tuned in last year. “Puppy Bowl IX” will feature 84 animals, including 63 puppies from 23 shelters.
“Puppy Bowl” airs Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. on Animal Planet. The Super Bowl starts at 6:30 p.m. on CBS.
