’Tis the season to write letters to Santa . . . and President Obama

This month, kids have a chance to write to some pretty famous people: Santa Claus and President Barack Obama.

●Macy’s and the Make-a-Wish Foundation, which grants wishes to sick kids, has teamed up to have kids who are writing to Santa also help kids in need. Between now and December 24, kids can write to Santa and put their stamped letter, addressed to Santa at the North Pole, in the special Santa Mail letterbox at any Macy’s store. Macy’s will make sure the letters get delivered, and for every letter received, the store will donate $1 to Make-a-Wish.

●Kids also can participate in the “Mail to the Chief” program, in which students handwrite letters to the president and tell him about their hopes for the future. In 2008, more than 35,000 children nationwide wrote letters to President Obama in their best penmanship. To find out how to participate, ask your parents or teachers to go to www.hwtears.
