Readers took KidsPost on vacation!

Thanks to everyone who participated in this year’s Summer of KidsPost. We received photos featuring 526 kids, from 43 states and 36 countries. We have published photos in the newspaper and online all summer long and it has felt like we’ve all been on a wonderful journey together.

Tara Udani, 6, and Kiran Udani, 3, from Arlington went to Malaysia where they posed with KidsPost in front of a 200-year-old mailbox. The trip there was very, very long -- took the family 37 hours door-to-door, but once there it was great to meet family, to sample the huge variety of fruits and food and also to see the blend of so many cultures.

Carter, 9, and Katie, 7, Daniels of Annandale went on an excellent adventure through the Southwest last week. It was a special vacation, as the kids had never been to the Southwest and wanted to see everything from grasshopper shaped bridges to the world's only green-arched McDonald's (in Sedona, Arizona - unfortunately couldn't find our Kids Post for that picture!). Oh, and the Grand Canyon and whitewater rafting and stuff were cool too.

Megan Zalesak, 8, of Swan Point, Maryland, visited Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming this summer with her parents and grandparents. She loved hiking around the hot springs and geysers in the Park. This is Megan in front of Morning Glory Pool which is located near Old Faithful. Varying water temperatures in and around the pool allow different colors of bacteria to grow.

The Durrington cousins visited the Newseum in downtown Washington. Brandon, Drew, and Kendra Durrington toured the Newseum with a KidsPost on Sunday, August 8th. Brandon and Kendra live in Dover, Delaware and Drew lives in Laurel, Maryland.This was a great trip with our parents and grandparents.

Camille Johnson, 9, of the Takoma Park neighborhood of Washington, D.C., visited the city of lights, Paris, with her family. It was a special occasion because she spent it with her father, who recently returned from Afghanistan. The Shacochis kids from Herndon -- Emma, 10, Carolina, 7, Joey, 12, and Clare, 5 -- took a trip to Eastern Arkansas to visit family they hadn't seen in three years. While there, they got to see the Louisiana Purchase State Park near their grandfather's hometown of Holly Grove, which marks the point at which all land surveys started for the entire Louisiana Purchase.

Five-year-old twins, Owen and Alex Berngartt, are reading KidsPost at Bethany Beach, Delaware during a July 4th week vacation. The boys are from Eldersburg, Maryland and they had fun riding the Bethany Trolley, ate hard shell crabs and corn, rode in a speedboat, and caught sand crabs in the water’s edge.

Noah Lewis, 7, and Mika Lewis, 4, of Gaithersburg spent their summer going to school in Japan. The Japanese school semester ends on July 20. They finished their trip to Japan by spending 10 days sightseeing in Tokyo. One of the highlights was seeing the recently opened Tokyo SkyTree, the tallest broadcasting tower in the world. Before visiting Japan, Noah and his mom read about the Tokyo SkyTree in KidsPost, where they learned that it is almost four times taller than the Washington Monument.

Genevieve Cowl, 7, of Rockville, visited the Smithsonian's Natural History Museum. Genevieve's family decided to spend the xummer months close to home and take advantage of all Washington, DC has to offer, especially the fantastic, educational and fun museum system. One of our first stops was the Rotunda at Natural History where Genevieve got to see the awe-inspiring African elephant in all its majestic beauty.

Watkins Elementary School students Julian Morris, 11, James Waltson, 11, and Kiamsha Tate ,10, visit the active Poas Volcano in Costa Rica with their teachers, Nina Harris and Lauren Tate. The Peace Thru Culture Global Trek allows students to learn about Costa Rican culture. The Poas Volcano is active and spews smoke, gases and steam. In the background is Lake Botos which is the inactive crater that has not erupted for more than 7,500 years.

Troop 160 worked hard selling Girl Scout cookies and used the money for a summer trip to Chesapeake Beach, Maryland. The Dumas Family, from Derwood, Maryland, loves to visit the Goodyear Blimp's house in Pompano Beach, Forida when they go to Fort Lauderdale every summer. They are big fans of the Goodyear Blimp, and love to watch takeoff and landing. The even got to meet the pilot.

Korrina Gidwani, 11, of Centreville, visited Mani Bhavan in Mumbai, India, which was Mahatma Gandhi's home from 1917-1934. Korrina's picture was taken in front of Gandhi's original room, where he worked and lived. She enjoyed seeing Gandhi's original spinning wheel and several artifacts from his time spent in prison.

The Darnell Family of Arlington went sailing for a week through the British Virgin Islands.This picture was taken at Anegada, the northernmost island of the BVI chain.The population there is around 300. The attached picture shows Ben Lang, 9, and sister Molly, 6, of Silver Spring in St. John, US Virgin Islands. They are at Maho Bay, one of the north shore beaches on the island. The kids said that the best part of being in St. John was snorkeling at all the different beaches. They got to see sea turtles, stingrays, sea urchins. barracudas, and lots of different fish and coral!

Alex Gifford, 9, of Vienna, was sure to bring along his Kids Post when visiting Big Ben during our family trip to London, England. This was Alex's first trip outside the United States. He especially enjoyed visiting the places where his ancestors, like William the Conqueror (really!), once lived and died, and seeing real artifacts he learned about when studying Ancient Egypt and Rome, like the Rosetta Stone and the original Roman wall of Londinium.

Talk about planning a trip! Dorothy and Emil Skalicky of Gettysburg sent the KidsPost to their four grandchildren in Colorado. The loving grandparents hope it will help reduce the "Are We There Yet?"s as the kids prepare for their 1,750 mile road trip to see their grandparents this August. Cousins Weihan Zhong, 10, from Nanjing, China, and Cassie Zhang, 8, from Boyds, Maryland went on a summer vacation taht required winter coats! The girls were on a day cruise in Kenai Fjords National Park, near Seward, Alaska. Despite the chilly weather, the girls loved seeing humpback whales, mountain goats and bald eagles.

10-year-old Robert McNierney loves fishing. We mean he REALLY loves fishing. During a recent family fishing trip to Lake Anna in Mineral, Virginia, Robert caught 15 fish all by himself. Alex Haris,16, Clinton, New Jersey; Jillian Greeson,7, Alexandria; Caroline Greeson,10, Alexandria; Carleigh Haris,10, Clinton, New Jersey took Kidspost with them on an exciting and fun filled family cruise to the Caribbean. The cousins are seen here posing in front of their ship, the Oasis of the Seas, after it docked in Cozumel Mexico. They also visited Labadee, Haiti and Falmouth, Jamaica on this seven day cruise with their families and grandparents. The Oasis of the Seas is the largest cruise ship in the world and always had something going on! The girls especially enjoyed the Promenade area where there was an endless supply of fresh pizza and desserts!

Cade Stevens, 10, nd Tyler Stevens, 8, of Ashburn visited Cliff Palace in Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado. The boys had a great time exploring Pueblo Indian cliff dwellings after studying the Pueblo Indians at school. They climbed down to the ruins seen in the background photo and really felt like they were back in the time of the Pueblo Indians!

Natalie Barrett, 8, of Herndon took her copy of the War of 1812 edition of KidsPost with her to Baltimore’s Sailabration festival of ships last month. Natalie read about the war, and that helped make the trip more interesting, her mom said. She got to see the tall ships as well as her favorite ship, the historic USS Constellation, which was built in 1854.

Tropical Storm Debby may have brought buckets of rain to Florida but Tyler, 6, and Jake, 8, Engel didn’t let a little rain get in their way of their Disney vacation. They put on their Mickey raincoats for a picture with KidsPost at Disney’s Epcot. There was even a silver lining to all the clouds for the Potomac boys. The bad weather meant shorter lines for rides, their mom Deb Engel reported.

While in Philadelphia, they could only look at the Liberty Bell and only talk with Betsy Ross at her home, Nathan Schneier (4) and Abigail Schneier (age 7) of Capitol Hill took the name of the Please Touch Museum literally. They healed babies in the model Children's Hospital and tuned up cars in the garage. And after serving up pretend Rita's Ice, they got to eat the real stuff in their favorite flavor - Swedish Fish!

Sammi Jo Squire was visiting her grandparents from Leawood, Kansas, when she brought KidsPost at the National Zoo. Sammi Jo had a special vacation in Washington, DC with her grandparents. It was her first time being away from home without her parents. We visited the Natural History Museum, The White House, saw The Music Man at the Arena Stage, had lunch on top of the W Hotel, went to a Nationals' game, and best of all was our visit to the National Zoo where she got to see the orangutans on the O-Line and the baby gorilla.
