With a growing family, we were on the hunt for a perfect used vehicle. After looking at several cars, we came across an ad for a Chevrolet Suburban. We brought along all four children to take it for a true test drive.
Impressed with how it handled and how much room we had with all of us in it, we decided to purchase the vehicle. Upon parking it, their dad told the kids to be quiet so he could talk to the owner. They all knew the drill: Dad was going to talk the price down.
We all exited the vehicle, and the owner came up and asked, “So, what did you think?” At which point, my youngest, son Nathan (all of 4), pipes up with: “My Dad says we’re going to buy this Suburban.”
At which point we did — for the full asking price.
A grandmother of nine, I have always enjoyed the company of youngsters.
On one occasion my niece invited me to spend the weekend with her family. While her 3-year-old twin girls showed me their collection of toys, costumes and dress-up clothes, I spied a beautiful tiara and placed it on my head. One of the twins gently lifted it off, explaining, “You can’t be a princess, Aunt Jeanne, ’cause you have that old-lady hair.”
