Virginia Tech professor Dennis Hong has made an international name for himself — and Tech — by inventing humanoid robots whose abilities defy imagination.
Dennis Hong, an associate professor at Virginia Tech, with CHARLI-2 in the Robotics and Mechanisms Laboratory. CHARLI stands for Cognitive Humanoid Autonomous Robot with Learning Intelligence. Hong's dream has been to win RoboCup, a little-known international competition that is one of the premier academic events in robotics. RoboCup is also an annual soccer tournament for robots.
