A lot of counting to do at the zoo
One fish, two fish. Red fish, blue fish. But don’t forget one red-kneed tarantula and one spitting camel. Every January, zookeepers at the London Zoo in England get out clipboards and walk around counting the animals. That’s no easy task given that the zoo is home to more than 18,000 creatures, and they don’t alsways sit still to be counted. “The stick insects are all camouflaged so they can hide in the exhibit,” said a zoo spokeswoman. “And the moon jellyfish are constantly on the move.” Still the process is pretty important. The information collected at the London Zoo is shared with other zoos around the world.
