Art Briefs: Photo Contest, Comedy Courses and Crafty Bastards

Photo contest

National Camera Day was June 29, but it’s being observed for all of July at the Old Post Office Pavilion. The venue is holding its inaugural photo contest, “Take Your Best Shot.” Patrons can submit their most idyllic photo taken in and around the Pavilion by filing their photos by July 31 through Facebook, Flickr, Twitter, or e-mail at oldpostofficedc@rmdadvertising.com. The winner’s photo will be showcased by the Pavilion, and the winner will get to eat free once a week for a year at the Pavilion. For more information, visit facebook.com/OldPostOfficeDC.

Comedy courses

Teens can learn pointers for performing in cabaret and comedy in week-long summer workshops held by Creative Cauldron, July 11-15 and again July 18-22. Sixteen-to-19-year-olds will take evening courses in acting, improv and musical comedy; learn more about auditioning, and perform in a special end-of-week show with the satire assembly Capitol Steps, which is helping to teach the program. Cost is $375, and classes will be held at ArtSpace Falls Church, 410 S. Maple Ave. For more information and to register, call 571-239-5288, e-mail info@creativecauldron.org or visit creativecauldron.org.

Calling all crafters

The 2011 Crafty Bastards Arts and Crafts Fair in Adams Morgan is still accepting vendor applications for its annual event – until Monday, July 4. The fair, sponsored by Washington City Paper, is on Oct. 1 at Marie Reed Learning Center, and space is open to those who make their own unique wares, including art, clothing, jewelry and toys. Those interested must provide their business information plus five photos of their goods, as well as a description of the product and a $10 fee. To apply, and for more information, visit washingtoncitypaper.com/craftybastards.
