The town of Armero, Colombia, was devastated by a series of natural disasters: the eruption of the Nevado del Ruiz volcano, which melted ice caps and triggered a mud slide in 1985. More than 20,000 people were killed. Guzy shared the 1986 Pulitzer for spot-news photography with Michel du Cille.

In 1994, Guzy documented a Haitian woman who was trampled in a food riot in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Guzy won the 1995 spot-news photography Pulitzer for illustrating the political crisis in Haiti and its aftermath.

Guzy photographed a girl welcoming back Haiti's exiled ruler in 1994.

Agim Shala is passed through barbed-wire fencing at an Arab camp as members of the Shala family are reunited after fleeing Kosovo. This image was part of the portfolio that won the 2000 Pulitzer in feature photography.

Guzy photographed Sister Bernadette Ebenhoch, a Franciscan nun from Germany, distributing food to Kosovo refugees in 1999. Guzy and her colleagues Lucian Perkins and Michael Williamson shared the 2000 Pulitzer for feature photography.
