The town of Armero, Colombia, was devastated by a series of natural disasters: the eruption of the Nevado del Ruiz volcano, which melted ice caps and triggered a mud slide in 1985. More than 20,000 people were killed. Guzy shared the 1986 Pulitzer for spot-news photography with Michel du Cille.
