The third season of HBO’s hit series, which Washington Post TV critic Hank Stuever calls “a masterpiece in the making,” continues the quests and tangled story lines of the royal houses of George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” series Sunday night. Here’s a look at where the main characters stood at the end of Season 2.
Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), the ”mother of dragons” and sole survivor of the Targaryen clan, is reunited with her three dragons who were stolen by the warlocks of Qarth and hidden in the House of the Undying. To retrieve them, Daenerys has to walk past realistic mirages of her deceased husband Khal Drogo and never-born baby Rhaego, and an empty Iron Throne in King’s Landing — an illustration of her ultimate quest.
