Harry Potter books get paperback makeover

Associated Press - Artist Kazu Kibuishi will illustrate the new paperback editions of the Harry Potter books, starting with “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” which will be rereleased in September.

The Harry Potter books are getting a new look.

The trade paperback editions (those are books that have soft covers but are bigger than traditional paperbacks) will have new covers. The cover for “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” will show a scene of Harry and Hagrid walking through Diagon Alley. The illustration by Kazu Kibuishi will replace the one by Mary GrandPre, which shows Harry riding a broomstick about to catch a snitch. The original illustrations will still be used for hardcovers and smaller paperbacks.

The new edition of “Sorcerer’s Stone” is scheduled for release in September, the 15th anniversary of the publication of the first Harry Potter book in the United States, according to the publisher, Scholastic. Over time, all seven books in the series will get new covers, the company said.
