Lip-syncing is common at live performances

Beyonce’s performance of the National Anthem at the presidential inauguration may have been a lip-sync off a prerecorded track. If so, she is not the only famous musician to mimic his or her way through a live performance.

The U.S. Marine Band confirmed that Beyonce recorded a performance of "The Star-Spangled Banner" the night before the inauguration. The singer's camp is not saying whether she used the prerecorded track.

Ashlee Simpson was involved in one of the most embarrassing episodes of lip-syncing in 2004 when she began singing one song on an episode of "Saturday Night Live" while the recorded vocal of another song began playing. She returned to “Saturday Night Live” and performed "Catch Me When I Fall" — a song inspired by her previous appearance on the show.
