Jennifer Correa & Nathan Cash

Jennifer Correa, 35, and Nathan Cash, also 35, both work at the Defense Department. They live in Silver Spring.

Wedding date: Feb. 25

Location: ThorpeWood, Thurmont, Md.

Guests: 72

How they met: They had seen each other at social events but didn’t really meet until a mutual friend’s party in March 2010. A few weeks later, they went for Sunday brunch at Eastern Market’s Tunnicliff Taver n.

The proposal: On a weekend trip to New York in September, rain interrupted Cash’s plans to propose during a picnic in Central Park. They did manage to eat lunch on a bench during a break in the clouds, but when it started to rain again, they headed back to the hotel. Cash arranged for a bottle of champagne and desserts to be sent to their room. He took her hand, told her how much she meant to him and asked her to be his wife. Then they gave friends and family the news and ended the evening with a romantic dinner.

The wedding: The lodgelike atmosphere of ThorpeWood appealed to Correa and Cash, who were married in front of a roaring fireplace. They decorated with gold-dusted pine cones and votive candles in mason jars. The theme for the favors was warmth; the women received shawls, and the men got little bottles of liquor and hot sauce. The couple shared their first dance to the Beatles’ “Here Comes the Sun.”

The honeymoon: They went on a three-week trip and enjoyed the mix of cultures in Hong Kong, the pristine beauty of the Fiji islands and the opera in Sydney, Australia.
