Linnie Hanson & Billy “Skipper” Hughes
Tracy Timmester - Linnie Hanson and Billy "Skipper" Hughes kiss during their wedding reception at Breaux Vineyards in Purcellville, VA on June 11, 2011.
Linnie Hanson & Billy “Skipper” Hughes
Linnie Hanson, 24, is a nursing student. Billy “Skipper” Hughes, 26, is an audio-visual professional. The couple live in Centreville.
Wedding date: June 11.
Location: Breaux Vineyards, Purcellville.
Guests: 82.
How they met: Hanson and Hughes were introduced by a mutual friend at a Greek festival at a church in Falls Church during the summer of 2006. The two connected on Facebook and agreed to meet at Gravelly Point Park, near Reagan National Airport. They shared two pints of custard and talked for hours, interrupted every so often by the noise of jet engines overhead.
The proposal: As a Christmas present, Hughes bought Hanson tickets for a trip to Las Vegas in January 2010. Knowing that she loves aquariums, he convinced her that they had to be at the Mandalay Bay aquarium at exactly 3:30 p.m. Inside one of the tanks, a scuba diver held up a sign asking Hanson to marry Hughes, who then got down on one knee.
The wedding: Enchanted by retro toys, they decided that vintage, 1950s-style robots would be the theme for their reception. The groomsmen and bridesmaids wore brightly colored Chuck Taylor sneakers. After the DJ introduced the couple with the Beastie Boys song “Intergalactic,” Hanson and Hughes did the robot dance; the rest of the party followed.
The honeymoon: They returned to Vegas, where they saw shows, ate well, gambled a little and went zip-lining through a canyon outside the city.
