Annie Rosenzweig, 28, is a strategist in the Office of the Secretary of Defense. Yochi Dreazen, 34, writes about national security for National Journal. They live in Dupont Circle.

How they met: While Rosenzweig was in Fallujah, Iraq, doing support work for the 2009 provincial elections, her mother e-mailed chaplains in that country asking for help in finding her daughter a “nice Jewish boy.” Rabbi Andrew Shulman, then in Baghdad, forwarded the message to Dreazen and several other young men in Washington, adding: “take a look at the photo, pretty hot.” Rosenzweig posted an update on Facebook when she returned from Iraq; Dreazen, who has reported from that country and had crossed paths with Annie before, replied that they should get together and swap stories.

The proposal: In June 2010, on vacation in British Columbia, Dreazen surprised Rosenzweig with a helicopter flight to a glacier. After landing, they were led to the foot of a waterfall, where he proposed. They hiked the glacier together and returned to find the other surprise he had arranged: an elegant outdoor meal laid out on a white tablecloth with a bottle of champagne chilling in the snow.

The wedding: At the reception, Dreazen serenaded Annie with his own rendition of “A Woman of Valor,” a traditional Hebrew song. Capt. Adam Tiffen, the best man and an Army National Guardsman, who was among the men who had received Shulman’s e-mail, quoted from the message in his toast.

The honeymoon: The couple spent two weeks in Tanzania, where they went on safari and explored Zanzibar and the coast.
