Rick Ross featuring Jay-Z and Dr. Dre: “3 Kings”
Dre hypes his headphones, Hova hypes his SuperBaby and Ross wheezes about the usual (chicken, his Maybach). It’s the finest leak yet from the latter’s upcoming “God Forgives, I Don’t,” which has been gestating longer than an elephant at this point.
Prata Vetra: “So Low Lullaby”
The Latvian superstars’ new track is a gorgeous (English-language) synth-folk ballad.
Solos: “Carpe Diem”
So far, the famed NoCal-based math rock outfit Hella has birthed the beloved rap group Death Grips and this new band from guitarist Spencer Seim, whose whirligig of a new track sounds like something My Chemical Romance might have come up with if they had had better drugs.
The self-described gayngsta rapper’s “Dark York” may be one of the year’s most fascinating and flawed mix tapes, but the new video for its standout song is pure, ridiculous joy.
Afghan Whigs: “LoveCrimes” (Frank Ocean cover)
Greg Dulli injects Ocean’s formerly mild-mannered “Nostalgia, Ultra” track with weapons-grade amounts of menace, with predictably awesome results.
