TV Highlights: ‘Bones’ returns; ‘The Voice’ kicks off live shows

“Bones” (Fox at 8 p.m.) returns after a months-long hiatus as Brennan and Booth get ready for the birth of their daughter. But first, even though Booth pleads with pregnant Brennan not to exert too much energy, she insists they look into a case involving an escaped convict.

For the first time this season, “The Voice” (NBC at 8) goes live, as singers get to battle other performers from different teams on performance night.

An Army veteran has an unusual demand for the team on “House” (Fox at 9), as he refuses treatment unless someone will give him more information about the life of his deceased father, who also served in combat.

“American Masters — Margaret Mitchell: American Rebel” (WETA and MPT at 9) profiles the author of “Gone With the Wind” and one of the first female reporters in Georgia.

The second season of “American Ride” (BYUtv at 9, available on DirecTV channel 374 and other cable providers) finds former NFL lineman Stan Ellsworth looking into the history of our country’s early years. Afterward, play the “Oh, yeah, whatever happened to (fill in the blank)?” game as Duncan Sheik, the ’90s “Barely Breathing” singer, is featured on “The Song That Changed My Life” (BYUtv at 9:30).

“American Masters — Harper Lee: Hey, Boo” (WETA and MPT at 10), takes a look at the life of the author of “To Kill a Mockingbird.” It is reviewed by Hank Stuever on Page C1.

On “Castle” (ABC at 10), Castle and Beckett get some help with a murder investigation from a “devilishly handsome” detective from Scotland Yard after the daughter of a friend of the British detective is found dead.

Karen and Ivy are enemies again on “Smash” (NBC at 10) as they audition for the same juice commercial, and in Marilyn musical news, Eileen wants a new name for the show.

Former “Real Housewife” Bethenny Frankel is just trying to promote her brand on various talk shows, but she’s upset when she gets a fair share of negative press attention on “Bethenny Ever After” (Bravo at 10).

“The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” (NBC at 11:35) features actress Betty White, “Jersey Shore” star DJ Pauly D and musical guest Eric Hutchinson.

Actor Seann William Scott is on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” (ABC at 12:05), along with actress Christa Miller and country group Eli Young Band.
