GETTING THERE

US Airways, United and Air Canada offer one-stop flights from Reagan National and Washington Dulles to Rome, with mid-October fares currently starting at about $900 round-trip. Continental and United fly nonstop from Dulles starting at about $1,100.

Maremma is about a two-hour drive north of Rome. Trains leave several times daily from the Termini station in Rome to Orbetello, the capital city of Grossetto, and other towns throughout the area; go to www.trenitalia.com to book. Buses also leave frequently from the Grossetto train station to different destinations in Maremma; go to www.griforama.it.
