National Cherry Festival

Runs Saturday to Saturday (July 2-9) and features about 150 mostly free events and activities, including pie-eating and cherry pit-spitting contests and more. Premium seats for the air show on July 2 and July 3 are $12.95 for adults, $9.95 for children. Princess tea with the Cherry Queen on July 4 requires a $10 ticket.
Grand Traverse Lighthouse Museum
15500 N. Lighthouse Road, Northport
19th-century lighthouse on the shores of Lake Michigan. Open daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. In Leelanau State Park. Park entry $8 plus $4 for museum; children 6-18 $2; 5 and under free.
