Engagement party ideas: How to celebrate in Washington
By Amanda McGrath,
Marriage proposals of all kinds were delivered — and accepted — over Christmas and the holidays. Now it’s time to celebrate with family and friends, whether through a full-on engagement party or a casual get-together.
Going Out Guide’s Fritz Hahn has a detailed list of six top places for an engagement party in the Washington area, each with private rooms or party spaces. For casual affairs, Buffalo Billiards in Dupont Circle has multiple private areas, for groups from 50 to 200; or, try reserving the cozy James Joyce room at Ireland’s Four Courts in Arlington for groups of up to 60 people. For something swankier, indulge in chocolates and cocktails in the private dining room, mod lounge or scenic roofdeck of the District’s Co Co. Sala. If you’ve got money to throw around, Alexandria’s PX is “one of the area’s classiest places to have a drink,” Hahn says. Renting the space out for an event, though, can be pricey. See all six recommended venues, with details on space, price and location, on his engagement party list here.
A full-on fete might not be what you had in mind; here, options for other kinds of events for sharing your news.
