How they met: Vann and Bowman were at a Cafe Citron happy hour in April 2008. Bowman, who was seated one stool away at the bar, struck up a conversation with Vann by asking her about the ceviche she was eating. They talked late into the night. Bowman called several days later to invite her to a Washington Nationals game. They still have the ticket stubs.
The proposal: Since they rarely went out on weeknights, Vann was suspicious when Bowman suggested dinner at the W on St. Patrick’s Day. She checked his jacket pockets and asked whether he was going to propose. He told her he wasn’t, but when they arrived back home, he asked if she had a nice dinner. Then he said, “I have one more question for you . . .”
The wedding: Vann and Bowman chose Vieques because they wanted an intimate wedding spot that would double as a vacation with the people they cared about most. “It was a three-day party,” Vann says. The DJ played Bob Marley tunes, and the night’s festivities came to a close with everyone jumping into the pool — fully clothed.
The honeymoon: The couple traveled to San Juan and spent five days sightseeing, beachcombing and enjoying various rum concoctions.
