On Love: Erin Sorensen weds Scott Gore
Erin Sorensen & Scott Gore
Erin Sorensen, 31, is an executive assistant manager at Walgreens in Springfield. Scott Gore, 29, is a congressional liaison for the Federal Aviation Administration. They live in Crystal City.
Wedding date: May 5
Location: Old Town Alexandria Hilton
How they met: Sorensen and Gore met in April 2009 during an alumni leadership conference at Arizona State University. They immediately hit it off, and Gore returned to Washington after the event. They communicated through Facebook until they reconnected five months later, when Gore returned to Phoenix for another conference. They realized then, he says, “there was something very special about the relationship.” They traveled back and forth between the two cities until Sorensen moved to Washington last year in May.
The proposal: In July, they went shopping for rings and selected the one Sorensen had her heart set on. She knew a proposal was imminent but didn’t know where or when. Gore didn’t keep her waiting. That evening, he suggested going to his favorite spot along the Potomac. With a view of the city’s most famous landmarks, Gore got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. Sorensen responded, “Absolutely!”
The wedding: Out of respect for their different faiths, the ceremony blended Catholic and Jewish traditions and prayers. Guests danced the night away amid a color scheme of black and white with hot pink accents. Carrie Underwood’s “Mama’s Song” played as the couple took their first turn on the dance floor.
The honeymoon: Following Sorensen’s dream to honeymoon in Europe, they traveled to Rome, Florence, Geneva and Paris. Highlights of the trip included seeing Michelangelo’s David in Florence and savoring the food in Rome.
