On Love: Kathryn Floyd marries Pierce Blue

Kathryn Floyd, 28, is a marketing and communications consultant. Pierce Blue, 27, is a lawyer. They live in Pentagon City.

How they met: Both were students at the College of William and Mary in November 2003, when a mutual friend set them up for Floyd’s sorority formal. After the event, Blue wrote to his mother that he had met a sweet girl; Floyd wrote hers that she had met someone special. A few days later, Floyd e-mailed Blue about getting together again.

The proposal: On Dec. 26, 2009, while visiting the Williamsburg campus, Blue led Floyd back to the spot where he had picked her up for the formal six years before. On bended knee, he told her he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. Floyd responded, “Yes, please.”

The wedding: The travel-loving couple named each table after a place they had visited and used luggage tags as place cards. Instead of a book, guests signed a globe. Bouquets were constructed from cotton plants that Floyd and her cousins picked from a friend’s farm a few days before the wedding. One of Floyd’s bridesmaids made pecan pralines for favors, and the DJ gave lessons in the shag, South Carolina’s state dance.

The honeymoon: While on a Caribbean cruise, the two went swimming with sea turtles in Barbados and feasted on Creole food in St. Martin.
