(Rebecca Keeling Studios) - Laura Cocoltchos and Robb Mikolajko at their wedding reception at the CrossKeys Vineyards in Mt. Crawford, Va., on June 9, 2012.
Location: CrossKeys Vineyards, Mount Crawford, Va.
Guests: 85
How they met: Both were on business trips to Phoenix in June 2008. At the hotel bar, Mikolajko sent Cocoltchos a glass of wine. They struck up a conversation, and after they realized they were both from Virginia, she agreed to meet him at a beer festival in Leesburg two weeks later. After a successful first date, Cocoltchos invited him to go to her best friend’s wedding. “That’s when I fell head over heels for him,” she said. When he arrived, he immediately asked how he could help and proceeded to hang lights and set up tables.
The proposal: On Feb. 20, 2011, they took a walk to Garfield Park near Capitol Hill. While they sat on their favorite secluded bench, Mikolajko took a ring from his pocket and got down on one knee. Before he could finish, “Laura Cocoltchos, will you marry . . . ” she shouted, “Yes!”
The wedding: They chose a vineyard with a view of the Blue Ridge Mountains for their outdoor ceremony and wrote their vows. Mikolajko, a fan of IPAs, brewed beer for the event. Guests also received welcome bags filled with M&M’s with the couple’s faces on them and their wedding date. Grilled lamb chops and spanokopita appetizers won raves.
The honeymoon: They vacationed on the island of Qamea in Fiji at an intimate resort. They snorkeled, picnicked on a private honeymoon beach and hiked to waterfalls.
