How they met: Rob and Arielle became friends at Emory University in 2000. They drove from Atlanta to South Carolina to score tickets to a Billy Joel/Elton John concert in early 2001; later that year, they were platonic dates for a fraternity formal. Post-graduation, Arielle moved to Chicago and Rob to Washington. In 2009, after ending a serious relationship, Arielle relocated to D.C. and Rob helped her move in. Months later, they had their first official date out of college.

The proposal: In July, Rob told Arielle to pack for a mystery trip. They flew to Atlanta and he took her to their favorite coffeehouse on the Emory campus. It would normally be closed in summer, but Rob had convinced management to open it for the occasion. Inside, Arielle saw champagne and a bouquet of flowers. She wasn’t sure it was meant for her until Rob got down on one knee.

The wedding: They chose “After All” by Cher and Peter Cetera for their first dance, thinking it most appropriate for their relationship. Their color scheme was purple, silver and black; they chose a signature cockatil — a purple margarita that included red and blue curacao and cranberry juice — to match. A sweet touch: Arielle’s parents’ 34th anniversary was the same day as the ceremony, so the new bride and groom arranged a mini wedding cake for them, too.

The honeymoon: They plan to tour Argentina – from Mendoza to Buenos Aires to Patagonia – for 12 days in December.
