Tips for riding Metro with kids

November 2, 2011
What to do

Devise a plan in case you and your children get separated. If you do get separated, alert a Metro employee. The station managers, transit police and train and bus drivers have been trained to help.

Program 202-962-1212 into your cellphone, and press 1 for elevator outages. If you have a smartphone, bookmark Metro’s mobile Web site to see train schedules and elevator outages on the go.

Use the walk-through fare gate if your child is in a stroller.

What not to do

Bring a stroller on the escalator. If the elevator is broken, collapse the stroller and carry the child.

Carry an uncollapsed stroller onto a bus.

Attempt to block train doors while they’re closing, especially by using a stroller.
