Entertaining outdoors is always a logistical challenge, but throwing a party on a 180-foot pier makes advance planning all the more critical. For those times when she's not throwing parties on the pier, Rieger keeps a small runabout and a kayak on hand, jumping in the water for a swim whenever she feels like it.

Rieger uses her hour-long commute after her 5 p.m. newscast to gather her thoughts. 'You shed the city and lots of other things during the drive,' she says. 'By the time I see that water, I'm good.'
