Bowie boy dies from injuries after being hit by vehicle

Investigators are not sure why Jahbari J. Howe drove his bicycle into oncoming traffic in Bowie on Sunday, but the result was fatal for the 9-year-old.

The Bowie boy died Tuesday from injuries he suffered as he rode his bicyle near a sidewalk in the 12800 block of Woodmore North Boulevard about 7:30 p.m., Prince George’s County police said. Police believe he veered in front of an oncoming SUV and was fatally struck, officials said. Jahbari was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Officials said they are not sure why the child turned into traffic, but police continue to investigate.

The driver of the SUV remained at the scene of the accident. Speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash, officials said.
