A 17-year-old boy stabbed another 17-year-old boy during a fight Thursday at Beltsville’s High Point High School, Prince George’s County police said.
The victim was hospitalized for injuries and is expected to recover, said Cpl. Henry Tippett, a police spokesman.
The incident occurred about 11 a.m. in a breezeway at the school, Tippett said. He said the assailant used a small knife to stab the boy in the leg and torso and then fled from the school.
Tippett said investigators had obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect but had not located him. He said that investigators think the fight “may have possibly had some gang ties to it” but that he did not know which gangs were involved.
Briant Coleman, a Prince George’s schools spokesman, confirmed that a fight occurred at High Point and said that school security personnel were investigating the details. He said that those involved in the fight left the scene before security personnel arrived. Two hours later, a 17-year-old showed up at a hospital and said he was stabbed at High Point, Coleman said.
“There was a fight on campus, but we are not certain that the student was actually stabbed at High Point,” Coleman said.
Coleman said police told him that the victim was a High Point student. He said he did not have any information about the suspect.
